It was a surprising change to see the first arrival of netbooks in the market. Customers were not sure if they really wanted to buy a netbook, but the astonishing miniature sizes and designs tempted a great majority of buyers to get their hands on this new breed of laptops.
Asus Eee PCs were the pioneers in the segment and within no time every major laptop brand such as Dell, Acer, HP, MSI joined the race to offer the best netbook deal to meet this new demand. Today every laptop brand offers netbooks and with the passage of time these tiny netbooks have become a necessity.
Today 2 in every 10 online laptop purchesed is a netbook and this figure is expected to rise even higher by the end of this year with the availability of netbooks in a variety of poweful specs and specially designed features to meet different customer needs.
When netbooks were first launched they were only focused to deliver basic computing from a miniature version of a laptop and had many limitations. Initial Asus Eee PC Models were Linux based, had limited 512 kbs of ram and a flash hard disk, so the only selling point was the compact size of the laptop. The breakthrough came when Intel lauched its first ‘Intel Atom’ series of processors which was specifically desinged to work in Netbooks, able to perform routine computing tasks on windows operating systems and consume less battery power, yet the bigger indicator of a netbook still remains is its miniature processor, screen size and affordable price. You’ll find Itel Atom or AMD Neo processors in notebooks with a smallĀ screen of 8 – 11 inches, however there are laptops available on the market with smaller screen sizes and full spec processors such as Intel Mobile Processors or Core2 Duo but they can not classified as netbooks as those laptops are mini laptops offered at premium prices.
Why buy a Netbook
If you happen to own a desktop or even a regular laptop then you must have felt the need for having something lighter and handy to carry around. A vast majority of netbook buyers are students and professionals who own netbooks as their second or third personal computer for daily commute and accomplishing routine tasks.
